From Triumph to Death

She could be the successor of Gloria Estefan, others said she is the Mexican version of Madonna, and many declared her to be the "queen of Tejano music", tragically, she was killed while she was at the peak of her career by someone she trusted so much.

Selena Quintanilla Perez was a very well-liked Mexican-American singer, attracting devotees, from the Latin community in the U.S. and South America as well as those from non-Hispanic communities.

She released Spanish-language and English-language albums through the entirety of her calling and all were declared hits even winning her a Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987 Tejano Music Award, and a Grammy for Best Mexican-American Album

Selena was born in Texas on April 16, 1971 to a Panamanian-born matriarch and a Mexican pater who founded Selena's group the Selena y Los Dinos when she was six. In 1998, she espoused her band guitarist, Chris Perez, but still resumed her singing career. Furthermore, her concert in Houston Astrodome in 1995 was a sensation with more than 61,000 devotees present.

In March 1995, Selena was gunshot at the back by her Fans Club president and manager of 'Selena Inc.' boutiques, Yolanda Soldivar whom they found out was lifting currencies from her shops. As a way of remembering her, at that time Texas Congressman George W. Bush made known her birthday as Selena Day in Texas, and in 1997 a show on her life entitled 'Selena' was released.
